Color bleeding is one of the most frustrating laundry problems — especially when bright T-shirts ruin your whites, or new hoodies bleed dye in the first wash. Luckily, preventing color transfer is easier than you think.

1. Always Sort by Color
- Whites
- Lights
- Dark colors
- Reds (they bleed the most!)

2. Turn Clothes Inside Out
This reduces friction and protects the outer fabric layer.
3. Use Cold Water Only
Hot water causes dyes to loosen and bleed faster.
4. Salt or Vinegar for First Wash
- Add ½ cup of salt to the first wash to stabilize dyes.
- Or add ½ cup of vinegar to lock in colors.
5. Wash New Clothes Separately
New red or black items should always be washed individually for the first 2–3 cycles.
6. Use Color-Catcher Sheets
These absorb loose dyes during washing, preventing them from staining other garments.
7. Don’t Overload Your Washer
Clothes need space to move. Too much friction releases dye.
